An 18-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested and charged with first degree murder in the slaying of Dustin Padvaiskas.
The name of the accused, who is to appear in court later today, has not been released.
Padvaiskas, 21, was found lying against a guardrail in the centre median of the Red Hill Valley Parkway south of Mount Albion Road just after dawn on Monday.
It is believed he was badly beaten along a pathway just west of the parkway where a passing couple found a large pool of blood later Monday morning.
He is Hamilton’s fourth homicide of the year.
Padvaiskas moved to Hamilton this summer from Beamsville to complete his high school diploma at St. Charles Adult and Continuing Education Centre.
Detective Sergeant Paul Beech of the Hamilton police homicide unit said late Wednesday the man was arrested just before 2 p.m. Wednesday. He did not say where or under what circumstances.
The man was taken into custody and interviewed by homicide detectives and subsequently charged.
The suspect was already being interviewed when police released a photo of Padvaiskas, formerly of Beamsville, and an appeal for witnesses.
Two men – one of them bloody – were seen running on the parkway between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. the night before. Beech says he believes the bloodied man was Padvaiskas and he wants to talk to the other man.
