More than five months after well-known Murphy’s Sub Shop owner Albert Murphy – or Murph, as everyone calls him – was clobbered with a club and robbed, police made an arrest around 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Thursday also marked his wife, Demetrea’s, 63rd birthday. She told her husband the arrest was the best gift.

Several hours after the arrest, a smiling and emotional Murphy went to Hamilton police headquarters to thank the public for their outpouring of support following the June 11 attack. He also thanked the police, adding that he always had faith they would solve the case.

Friends and community members decorated Murphy’s shop for his return from hospital and held a fundraiser, where many donned Team Murphy T-shirts.

Murphy said he still has headaches following the attack that left him in hospital for several days.

“I wake up with a headache and go to bed with a headache.”

He still works in the sub shop, but has taken a bit of step back and is considering retirement.
