A magnitude 5.0 quake hit Hamilton and southern Ontario at 1:45 p.m., causing buildings to shake and forcing the evacuation of some operations.There were no reports of injuries or damage in Hamilton.
The quake was felt in Hamilton, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and upstate New York. Reports ranged from Montral through to Brantford and Caledonia.Geological experts on both sides of the border say a “moderate earthquake” has rocked residents of southern Ontario, Quebec and the northeastern United States.The U.S. Geological Survey says the temblor occurred just before 1:45 ET and was a magnitude 5.5 tremor centred about 60 kilometres north of Ottawa, in western Quebec.
