Get down on your hands and knees to see the garbage coating Hamilton's parks -- cigarette butts, plastic bottles, coffee cups, even old TVs.
That's what about 50 people did this weekend as part of Garbage Crawl, an event for communities to give the city's natural areas a spring cleaning.
"Something happens with your psyche when you see garbage on the street," said volunteer Dawn Caillet. "You kind of tidy up, and you feel better."
With brooms, work gloves and orange garbage bags, about 10 people picked up trash in Beasley Park yesterday afternoon.
Caillet said it feels good to clean up areas often used by families, kids on the playground, rollerbladers and cyclists.
"We're all trying to make Hamilton beautiful. Then people have a beautiful place to come to."
Mike Borrelli and Megan Platts helped clean the park for their three-month-old son, Jack, who they pushed around in a stroller with them.
