A historic Hamilton industrial complex once touted as a catalyst for local artistic revival is up for sale.
The converted Imperial Cotton Mill on Sherman Avenue North, the former home of the Imperial Cotton Centre for the Arts, is on the block for just shy of $3.5 million.
“In reality, all our properties are for sale at one time or another,” Peter Crosthwaite, spokesman for majority owner Toronto Stores Ltd., said today.
“We are looking across Canada for people who will carry on what we have been doing.”
Crosthwaite said the building has been quietly up for sale since the summer.
Toronto Stores and several individual investors bought the 1900-era textile mill in 1999 and converted it into artist and artisan studios and enterprise space. They invested about $2 million to upgrade the property.
