There will be no stadium in Confederation Park.
Council shot down a motion from Mayor Bob Bratina to investigate the location at an emergency meeting Wendesday morning. The vote was close, 9-6 against.
The vote throws the future of the Pan Am stadium in Hamilton into uncertainty. With Confederation Park out of the picture, the city is essentially out of options. Every other possibility presented over the past several months is either too expensive or unacceptable to the Tiger-Cats.
Councillor Sam Merulla plans to introduce a motion to renovate Ivor Wynne instead of building a new stadium. However, Tiger-Cats president Scott Mitchell called that option a “crazy idea” and said the team wasn’t open to that option.
