Waterloo Regional Police say information obtained during an ongoing investigation into a drug lab found in Cambridge earlier this year led to the discovery last Friday of $7.5-million in illegal drugs at several locations in Halton Region, including Burlington.
Halton and Hamilton police, and the RCMP-assisted Waterloo police, the lead agency, sent officers outfitted in hazardous materials (hazmat) suits to conduct the search of a Burlington unit within an industrial strip complex at 1110 Heritage Rd. last Friday around 6 a.m.
Additional searches were conducted early Friday in storage lockers on Holgate Crescent in Milton and on the South Service Road in Oakville.
The trio of co-ordinated searches resulted in the seizure of approximately 142,000 suspected MDMA (ecstasy) pills, 166 kilograms of suspected MDMA powder and about 47 kg of suspected methamphetamine chemicals.
“I don’t have a breakdown for Heritage Road, specifically, but the majority was from that location,” said Olaf Heinzel, public affairs co-ordinator for Waterloo Regional Police.
Waterloo Regional Police recently charged two men in connection with an ongoing investigation in what it has termed a clandestine drug lab at a warehouse on Jarvis Street in Cambridge. On May 31 of this year, Waterloo police seized a large quantity of methamphetamine (ecstasy) along with related chemicals and equipment.
As a result of the Cambridge and Halton investigations, a 30-year-old Burlington man faces three charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and two charges of production of a controlled substance.
