Maclean’s magazine’s annual university rankings place McMaster at No. 6 in Canada in the medical-doctoral category.
The university has held the same place since 2007 in the category that measures universities with medical schools, a range of PhD programs and undergraduate programs.
Members of the top five remain the same, though shuffled slightly, with McGill in first place, followed by University of Toronto, UBC, University of Alberta and Queen’s.
The only change is that Queen’s dropped from third to fifth, allowing UBC and Alberta to move up.
Details of the rankings are to be spelled out when the magazine reaches newsstands Thursday. This is the 20th year Maclean’s has published its influential rankings, which look at 49 Canadian universities.
The rankings are often an important part of families’ decision-making.
In its category for universities that offer primarily undergraduate programs, Mount Allison finished first, followed by Acadia, University of Northern British Columbia, University of Lethbridge and Laurier.
In its “comprehensive” category for universities that have a wide range of undergrad and graduate programs, Simon Fraser places first, followed by University of Victoria, Waterloo, Guelph and Memorial.
