'Incredible response' raises $565,000 for Haiti

Local residents donated more than half a million dollars to yesterday's Haiti Media Telethon.

Shortly after the 16-hour fundraiser ended at 10 p.m., jubilant supporters pulled a Haitian flag off a board at telethon headquarters at McMaster's Downtown Centre, revealing a total of $565,000.

"I'm overwhelmed," said Roger Trull, vice-president of university advancement at McMaster University, telethon co-chair with Pearl Company co-owner Gary Santucci.
