While people's first reaction to the Haiti earthquake might be to rush in and help, St. Joseph's Health System is in it for the long run, its president and CEO said yesterday.
"This won't be an in-and-out. This won't be a quick fix that makes us feel better," Dr. Kevin Smith said.
But while the hospital is looking to rebuild the infrastructure and two decades' worth of programs, the immediate need is getting food, drugs and equipment to their two partner hospitals in Haiti, Smith said.
In light of this, community leaders came together yesterday afternoon to announce that a media telethon will air Tuesday on various local media outlets.
Proceeds will directly go towards supplying the University Hospital in Port-au-Prince and the Hopital Universitaire de la Paix.
