A Hamilton doctor is expected to be in the thick of things in devastated Haiti today after arriving to treat the injured, wounded and traumatized as part of a U.S. medical emergency team.
Dr. David McCann, an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University, expects to have treated several hundred people at a M*A*S*H-style hospital (the Mobile Army Surgical Unit in the 1970s TV series) by the end of this morning.
He will be working in the capital of Port-au-Prince after being scheduled to arrive in Haiti last night.
The 49-year-old father of five worked in New York City after the 9/11 attack and helped New Orleans residents after Hurricane Katrina but admits an earthquake reported to have killed as many as 100,000 is different.
