A fast-thinking Hamilton police officer saved a little girl from a major fall this morning after the toddler opened a second-floor window and climbed out on a porch roof.Constable Chris Gates raced to a Catherine Street North home around 11 a.m. after horrified neighbours spotted the two-year-old perched precariously on the home’s front porch roof.“The little one was up on the roof, really scared,” Gates said. “The fire department hadn’t come yet, so I found a neighbour with a ladder, went up and grabbed her and took her back through the window.”A extremely shaken Amanda Waters said she had been in the bathroom cleaning up kitty litter her daughter had thrown around the room when she realized she didn’t know where the girl was.“She went into the big bedroom where we sleep,” Waters said. “I had the window locked, I didn’t know she could unlock the window.”
