Toronto-bound Skyway closed by truck crash

A major truck crash and fire atop the Burlington Skyway has closed the Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW for most of the morning.

And that has Hamilton routes beginning to clog as commuters try and find a way around the bottleneck. East-end roads are filling and the Red Hill Valley Parkway, the Linc and Hwy 403 are already much busier than normal.

By 6:50 a.m., the 403 was backed up to the top of the Ancaster hill.

The crash occurred minutes after 5 a.m. when a tractor-trailer loaded with bread burst into flames after rear-ending a slow-moving truck loaded with steel and spilling its load.

The highway is littered with burnt loaves of bread, smashed truck parts and steel.
