By the end of the week, $60,000 worth of compassionate grants are expected to be in the mail, said Mike Zegarac, the city’s acting director of finance planning and policy.Next week it’s expected to jump to $200,000 as the city’s external adjuster Cunningham Lindsey works through thousands of applications for flood damage from the July 26 storm.“It’s really ramping up,” Zegarac said. The city is giving up to $1,000 to every home affected by the flood. Staff will be reporting back soon on additional compensation for homeowners without insurance because of past floods.About 6,000 residents have already registered with the claims hotline. The city expects the number will top 6,500 and the grants will hit $6 million in total.
