Do you know who wore this shirt? - Police release new evidence about Nick Perkins' attackers

Someone knows who ran over Nick Perkins and police are hoping a distinctive football jersey holds the key to jogging that person's memory.

One year ago today, around 3:40 a.m., Nick, then 17, was riding his bike and towing a 16-year-old friend on a skateboard up Mount Albion Road when he fell onto the road.

As Nick lay prone, a silver sedan driving down Mount Albion crested the railway tracks by Hixon Road and ran over him.

The car stopped and two men got out and assaulted Nick’s friend, Dominic, breaking his nose and stealing his knapsack. They then got back in the car and drove off with Nick still underneath.

Dominic chased after the car on Nick’s bike and found his friend abandoned in a pool of blood on Lawrence Road.

Nick suffered massive injuries to his left hip and leg, and the back of his head was scraped down to its skull.

His mother, Nickie Perkins-McGee said in April her son, who recently turned 18, continues to recover from his injuries and is only able to attend Mountain Secondary School part-time.

Hamilton police today released a photo of the type of jersey they say one of the attackers was wearing. They are asking for the public's help in finding the two men.

Det. Rob Mayea and Det. Stephen Ellis said witnesses have identified that one of the occupants in the suspect vehicle was wearing a generic (no team) football jersey with the number “01” on the front and back. The numbers were described as dark blue or black on white or light coloured shirt.

“Please assist us by locating and identifying the young adult males wearing this type of jersey,” said Det. Mayea. “It is not extremely common and hopefully the person of interest you provide will jive with one of our suspects.”
