The city has activated a telephone hotline for residents affected by Sunday's heavy rains. All inquiries regarding damage claims resulting from flooding should be directed to 905-667-3157.

Earlier today, the city opened an emergency relief centre for residents affected by flooding from today's heavy rains. Valley Park Community Centre, 970 Paramount Drive (Paramount and Mud Street), was to be open until 10 p.m. tonight (Sunday) as a relief centre for impacted residents who need a place to stay.

At least four roads remained closed as of suppertime Sunday night, including the Red Hill Valley Parkway. Mayor Fred Eisenberger said the Red Hill was to be reopened by Monday morning.

Also closed were Woodward/Burlington Street to Barton Street, QEW and Burlington Street, and Beach Boulevard. Various other local roads may also be closed or water-covered.

The city advises tap water remains safe to drink despite the heavy load on the water treatment plant, but asks residents to ease up on water usage to avoid further burden on the system.

Water levels in the wet well at the wastewater treatment plant remain stable but are still quite high, the city said in a media release around 7 p.m. Currently, seven pumps are running at full capacity and the plant is running on back-up generators. This is not currently having any major impact to the flooding, but if the city experiences another wave of high intense rainfall the Treatment Plant could be affected.
