It was an outpouring of love.
Of hockey.
Of Hamilton.
More than 3,500 Hamilton hockey fans poured onto the Jackson Square rooftop and basked in glorious sunshine for the city’s Let’s Bring the NHL rally.
They came in hockey sweaters - including a least two brave souls who wore Toronto Maple Leaf jerseys. They came with babies. They came with signs: one woman had ‘Let’s Make it Seven’ scrawled in ink on her chest above her tank top, and they cheered and cheered.
“Thank you Jim, Thank you Jim,” the crowd chanted at one point after Jim Balsillie’s representative Bill Walker read a letter from his client to the crowd.
The mood was celebratory.
Whether the rally will convince the NHL to permit a Hamilton franchise is unknown. But at least Balsillie will realize his Hamilton hockey gambit has won the hearts of ordinary Hamiltonians.

3500?
Wow... now, how many of those took the HSR and used a can of food to pay for the ride (1 way of course :) ???
Lets say ALL of them did, that would be 3500 cans of food, lets say at $1 per can... $3500 worth of food... RETAIL
If the HSR had donated $2.50 x 3500 = $8750 worth of food that the foodbanks could have bought WHOLESALE...
That works out to between 4x and 6x the same volume of food, AND the HSR wouldn't be out a penny less than they are now.
An excellent idea, given that the city just hasd to donate $180k to foodbanks the other day...
Doesn't anyone ever take the time to think things thru to see what would be the most effective way to do things?
Like the best way to get an NHL team? :)
(Sorry, just couldn't resist... :)
