Hamilton fails to make top 50 list of livable cities

The Six Nations band council has announced it is re-activating its monumental lawsuit against Ottawa for an accounting of the massive land holdings it once held along the Grand River.

The band council issued a statement last night saying it had notified the attorney generals of Canada and Ontario that the case will be active again Aug. 4.

The lawsuit, first filed in 1994, asks the courts to force the government to make an accounting of all the money it received on Six Nations' behalf for the sale of land along the Grand. It also asked the court to rule the government is responsible for replacing the value of lost assets. Six Nations has filed 28 land claims with Ottawa since 1980.

The lawsuit has been in hiatus since 2005 when the three parties to the lawsuit -- Six Nations, Canada and Ontario -- tried to resolve the legal dispute with the creation of a framework touching on two claims, mismanagement of Six Nations funds by an Indian agent in the 1830s and the non-payment for the transfer of Port Maitland.

Why are they arguing about something that happened 200 years ago. We Canadians don't have the paperwork anymore nor should have. It's long disintegrated. The complaint was lost back then. It is nonsense to be listening to Native arguments now as they are obviously doing this for greed only. They couldn't give two chips about the land. They are a people who you give an inch they take a foot. Nothing but greed for the money.
