When he’s on his game, go-kart driver Cameron Hogg is unstoppable.
Three weeks ago Cameron, 16, was speeding to the top of the racing world. An avid competitor since age 11, Cameron was chosen to compete in the 2009 Stars of Canada Championship. He’s the 2007 Rotax Junior Champion. Last year, he advanced to the Senior division. He hopes to parlay his success into a career as a Formula One driver.
“It’s just being able to relax and concentrating on not making mistakes each lap,” Cameron explained.
But today the pace of his life has slowed dramatically.
On April 23, thieves stole a trailer loaded with Cameron’s three go-karts and virtually all his racing gear. The loss is estimated at $50,000.
Cameron was supposed to compete in the 2009 Stars of Canada Championship later this month. The series event dates and locations have been set. Stars of Canada will be featured in a new TV reality series airing across Canada later this fall.
In order to compete, Cameron needs about $4,200 for a replacement kart. But the family’s recent loss has left them drained both financially and emotionally.
