Despite the recent economic climate –and a stubborn head cold – Mayor Fred Eisenberger was upbeat about Hamilton’s prospects as he addressed a breakfast meeting at Dutch Mill in Millgrove last week. And he took the opportunity to invite members of the Rotary Club of Flamborough AM and the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce – the two groups that sponsored the local event –to become ambassadors for the city.
“Our challenges are many, but they’re not insurmountable,” he noted, putting to rest up front recent media reports of ‘bedlam’ at the council table. “Our council is functional, and is doing great work in many areas.”
But while initiatives such as those led by Tourism Hamilton are flourishing, the city’s real challenge is to manage the transition from a steel-centric industrialized economy to a diversified manufacturing and commercial base. Eisenberger pointed to evidence that this is in the process of becoming a reality, –with the steel companies very much in the picture.
