The Ministry of Labour is investigating after a wall collapsed at a construction site in the city’s west end on the weekend, sending three workers to hospital.
Last Saturday, around 3:30 p. m., a cinder block wall collapsed at a 10-unit townhouse complex under construction at 1491 Plains Rd. W. at Edge Moor Avenue, north of Hwy. 403 and just east of Hwy. 6.
Three people were working on top of scaffolding, building a cinder block fire protection wall on the second floor of a unit, when the wall fell on top of them. The weight of the wall caused the second floor to give way, resulting in the three workers falling, along with the cinder block debris, to the main floor.
“It looks like the wind caught the wall while they were taking down the scaffolding,” said labour ministry spokesperson Bruce Skeaff on Monday.
However, weather is only the suspected cause at this point as the investigation continues, he added.
