For starters, 11 year old Veronica Penny has been eliminatedafter reachingthe final day of competition at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington. Veronica was one of only three Canadians, and 41 young spellers overall, who reached the semi-finals. She was eliminated on Thursday afternoon, along with 30 others, during the difficult semi-final round. The finals take place on Thursday night and the winner gets more than 40 thousand dollars U.S. in cash and prizes.
Veronica is home-schooled, sleeps with a dictionary under her pillow and spells during competitions with a penny in her shoe. She also reached the semi-finals last year.
