It's a fitting tribute to a brave and inspiring Hamilton youngster.
The family of Travis Carter will join city officials on Friday afternoon, by cutting the ribbon on an upgraded Meadowlands Community Park.
Travis' father Derek Carter notes that they've put what money was left through their fundraising efforts, towards a legacy in the form of accessible playground equipment. Derek says the equipment "would have been great for Travis" had he still been here. He adds that it "felt like the right thing to do" with the little money they had left in their charity. Travis passed away one year ago Saturday from Batten's disease, a very rare and fatal degenerative neurological-muscular disease. He died beforehis family could take him to China for stem-cell surgery.
