Major infrastructure announcements for Mohawk College and McMaster University, to be made in Hamilton today, are expected to bring tens of millions of dollars in government funding to the city.
Sources confirm both institutions will get significant government contributions to help with at least some of the building projects they have proposed, though details of the funding are not yet known.
Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement is scheduled to attend the McMaster announcement in the morning with provincial Training, Colleges and Universities Minister John Milloy.
That announcement involves funding from both the federal and provincial governments, but The Spectator has learned the afternoon Mohawk announcement by three Ontario cabinet ministers -- Milloy, Energy and Infrastructure Minister George Smitherman and Government Services Minister Ted McMeekin -- involves only provincial money.
The province is reportedly planning to give Mohawk more than the $16.5 million it invested in the college's Stoney Creek expansion, which was completed last year.
