Young Mother Charged For Lying to Police

A 23-year-old woman from Ridgeway who crashed her car into the Welland Canal has now been charged with mischief.

On April 22nd, the woman told police she and three children were ordered out of the car by a man who then took off with the vehicle.

She said he then drove the car into an old Welland Canal feeder canal and flipped the vehicle onto its roof.

Police couldn't find a male suspect and detectives eventually determined that the woman made up the story after crashing into the canal.
