A father and son who operate a longstanding Haldimand County auto-recycling and truck repair business are being accused of also running an outfit that shipped stolen auto parts and vehicles out of the country.
The pair face a total of 38 charges following what the Ontario Provincial Police say was a five-month investigation relating to stolen property at W.G. Equipment on Highway 56, just north of this Highway 3 hamlet.
Constable Paula Wright said yesterday about $670,000 worth of stolen property was recovered after several search warrants were executed at the business since December 2008. She said the two accused were arrested and charged by members of Project Heist, which was formed to combat vehicle thefts in the counties of Haldimand, Norfolk and Brant.
