Man with machete threatens police officer

A 21-year-old man is facing charges after pulling a machete on a Hamilton police officer twice during a foot pursuit.

Police said the incident started when the man entered Zam Zam Food Mart on Cannon Street East, around 8:20 p.m. Saturday and demanded money.

The owner fled to call police, and the man went behind the counter but did not take anything.

About 10 minutes later, the officer spotted the man and started a foot chase. After rounding a corner, the officer found the man with the machete held over his head. He then pulled his weapon, and the man fled.
