Dogs help bust two alleged thieves

Two men are facing break and enter charges after police dogs tracked them down hiding in an industrial storage lot.

Acting Staff Sergeant Chris Wills said police got a call about a break-in at a Stoney Creek gas bar about 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

Patrons at a bar across the street from the store at Barton Street and Green Road saw two men loading a van with cigarettes.

Wills said police were nearby investigating another break and enter at the Hamilton Children Aid Society near Centennial Parkway when officers saw the van pass by. Police pursued the van until the two men ditched it near Burlington Street.

Tracking dogs were called and quickly found the two men. One man had climbed a coal pile trying to get away, while the other was hiding under railway ties, Wills said.
