TAXES CHALLENGED

City staff recommend continuing to charge apartments a much higher tax rate than single–family homes, but a citizen–councillor sub–committee is again pressing for reductions. Hamilton’s ratio is now the second highest in the province, but councillors are reluctant to lower the charges on apartments because it would mean higher taxes on single family housing.
