A convicted double murderer who escaped from a Bosnian prison and slipped into Canada as a refugee has been caught after living in Hamilton and Grimsby for the past several years.
A 13-year international manhunt for Elvir Pobric, 37, ended Tuesday after Hamilton police's crack Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU) tracked the elusive Bosnian to Calgary, where he worked in construction but commuted home to Grimsby monthly.
He was taken into custody a Canada Border Services Agency warrant by Alberta Sheriffs’ fugitive squad, who stormed a suburban Calgary home where Pobric had been staying.
According to Bosnian court documents, Pobric lured two associates who traded in black market foreign currency to his mother’s village home in Velagici in April 1992.
