School board exercises right to expropriate

Plans to expand Waterdown District High School have taken another step forward, with this week’s announcement that the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board exercised its legal right to proceed with expropriation of lands adjacent to the Parkside Drive educational facility.

Authorization to proceed with the expropriation met a roadblock several weeks ago, when property owner and Parkside Hills developer Jack Nesbitt exercised his right to a needs hearing. HWDSB and Nesbitt were able to negotiate a settlement under the Expropriations Act and the request for a needs hearing was withdrawn in March.
