Poverty is a growing problem in Ancaster, a new report shows.
While still well below the city average, Ancaster experienced the highest poverty rate increase of all of Hamilton’s former municipalities from 1995 to 2005. The rate in Ancaster increased during that time from 5 per cent to 6.3 per cent.
City-wide, the poverty rate fell from 21.9 per cent in 1995 to 18.1 per cent in 2005, as defined by the Statistics Canada before tax low income cut off line.
