Bike-riding mugger targeting women - Seven evening attacks in east end

Hamilton police are hunting a bicycle-borne mugger who’s been targeting women in the city’s east end.

So far, none of the mugger’s seven victims – ranging in age from 17 to 72 –   have been injured.

Nevertheless, detectives working the case “obviously really want this guy caught,” says Sergeant Terri-Lynn Collings.

The bandit rides a ‘trick’ or ‘free-style’ bike and often comes up behind his victims as they are walking.

In the latest two incidents Thursday night, he stole a 72-year-old’s purse and “a substantial amount of money” from its perch in a shopping cart she was pushing  in the Cannon Street and Dunsmure Road area at 6:30 p.m.
