New surcharge may be on the way

If you own a home in Hamilton you'll be getting something extra on your tax bill next year.

An infrastructure tax. 

City Council has voted to add a half a percentage point surcharge to fund upgrades to roads, transit, and city buildings.

It works out to about 14 dollars for the average homeowner.

Staff is also recommending yesterday that council look at adding a one per cent infrastructure levy each year until 2019 to help cover what it calls a series infrastructure deficit.
