Google Street View comes to Hamilton

Hamiltonians can now see their homes and neighbourhoods on Google Street View.

The streetscape service launched yesterday in Hamilton and 13 other cities across Canada. It displays images from a street-level perspective, on an address you select. Try it out.

It's not a live view -- search for 191 Barton St. E. on Google Maps, and you'll see the burned-out remains of the Mark Preece Family House, a hospice being built for families of patients at the nearby Hamilton General Hospital. It was destroyed by fire last December and reconstruction began in July.

Google began acquiring pictures of Hamilton and other Canadian cities earlier this year.

Not all of Hamilton is in view, however. Parts of Flamborough, Stoney Creek and Glanbrook are not included.
