It looks like the Henderson General Hospital name will vanish into history next year.
After listening quietly to a 15-minute presentation from Ward 8 (west Mountain) councillor Terry Whitehead and Pat Saunders from the Hamilton Mountain Heritage Society imploring them to keep the Henderson name on the new Concession Street hospital, members of the Hamilton Health Sciences board of directors opted later not to revisit a 2006 decision to rename the new hospital the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre in recognition of the $23 million that Dundas residents Charles and Margaret Juravinski have donated to HHS.
“There was no interest by anybody in reopening the issue,” said board vice chair Mark Rizzo, who was chairing the Sept. 24 meeting at the David Braley Cardiac Vascular Stroke Research Institute at the Hamilton General Hospital.
Mr. Rizzo said board members discussed the request for about 15 minutes about two hours after the presentation, adding the board had a full agenda and did not wish to enter into a debate with the delegation over the issue.
